This kumihimo disk is made of dense foam measuring 3/4" thick (if comparing prices on the Internet, make certain it is not a 3/8" thick disk) and 4.25 inches in diameter. The thicker disk allows you to use the mini cord - it holds the smaller cord in place better than the thinner disk that is available.
Master an ancient art quickly and create beautiful braids from cord or beaded thread. Easily practice the Japanese form of braiding cord with this disk. It is easy peasy, and I find it is rythmic and therapeutic. I've read articles that people that knit and do similar craft work have less risk of dementia!
I use this disk to make hangtie braids instead of a simple braid, leather tie, or a macrame hangtie. There are many patterns that a person can make - I personally like the round braids for my brooms. I feel the braid elevates or upgrades the look of my brooms! You can charge more for your brooms, using traditional Japanese braiding with classic broom-making. I have included pictures of hangties that I have made using standard and mini cord.
You can also make braids, finish the ends with caps, and utilize the braid as a sennit around your handle for decoration, or make a long braid, and weave it into your plaited handle to further decorate your broom. So many options; so little time! I will eventually make some brooms as described, and load up pictures.
The disk comes with instructions to make an 8-strand round braid using the cord of your choice, along with weaving tips I have accumulated from my braid experience. The cord that I utilized in my hangties can be found on my website: Standard or Mini.
